The Speedmaster is one of OMEGA’s most iconic timepieces, having been a part of all six lunar missions. Celebrating that history, this "Blue Side of the Moon" model takes its name from the colour of the dark blue sky.
The 44.25 mm chronograph features a blue ceramic case complemented by a blue ceramic bezel ring with an OMEGA Ceragold™ tachymeter scale. It is presented on a blue leather strap with a blue ceramic and ceramised titanium foldover clasp.
Most vividly, the dial is blue aventurine glass and includes 18K Sedna™ gold indexes and hands as well as a date hand with red tip. At 6 o'clock is the accurate Moonphase indication, which features a blue enamel aventurine glass Moonphase disc (patent pending) with near and far sides of the moon in Sedna™ gold.
Powering the timepiece is the OMEGA Master Chronometer Calibre 9904, certified at the industry’s highest standard by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS).
The movement is unaffected by exposure to strong magnetic fields, even those greater than 1.5 tesla (15,000 gauss).

The chronograph function is a mechanism for measuring time intervals. A chronograph watch can therefore be used to time events while displaying the time like any traditional watch.

Behind the elegance of every Master Chronometer timepiece is the highest level of testing: 8 tests over 10 days, to ensure superior precision and anti‑magnetic resistance. We’ve raised our standards. You can too.
Master Chronometer Certified
Superior Precision
Twice as precise as any officially certified chronometer
Our Master Chronometer watches are tested and certified twice. Firstly, the movement is tested by the Official Swiss Chronometer Control (COSC) with precision criteria of -4/+6 seconds per day. Then the complete watch and its movement undergo eight Master Chronometer tests set by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS) with criteria of 0/+5 seconds per day.
Everyday items such as mobile phones, metal clasps on handbags, laptops, MRI, induction hobs or automatic doors; subject a watch to magnetic fields and can affect its performance for good. To prevent the risk of permanent deviations of up to several minutes a day we've conceived movements with antimagnetic materials, such as the silicone balance spring, capable of withstanding the highest fields.
To ensure the integrity of our timepieces at depth, not just some but all watches are fully immersed in water and pressure is applied up to the point of the guaranteed water resistance. By submerging each watch in water we have chosen – yet again - to exceed normal testing standards.
Our watches are engineered to the highest standards and certified as such. Each watch destined to become a Master Chronometer must first pass 8 stringent tests. The examinations we perform for precision, magnetic-resistance, power reserve and water-resistance allow us to cover the certified watches with a comprehensive 5-year warranty.
Less servicing
Extended service intervals
Each Master Chronometer is equipped with a Co-Axial escapement, conceived to reduce the mechanical constraints inside the movement. This significantly reduces the need for lubrication and hence the need for servicing. All mechanical movements need to be serviced periodically, but an OMEGA Master Chronometer offers more time between servicing than many other watches.
Shock-resistance
A selection of test watches face shock-resistance examinations that are equivalent to 5,000 g (1 g is equal to the force of gravity at the Earth's surface) to ensure our complex mechanical mechanisms are also extraordinarily robust. Not just for everyday use but for active sports such as golf and sailing.

SednaTM Gold
OMEGA has been using the exclusive 18K SednaTM Gold, its own fiery rose gold alloy, since 2012. Named after Sedna, an orbiting planetoid that has been described as one of the reddest in the solar system, SednaTM Gold not only bears all the standard characteristics of other 18K golds, but it also offers high resistance to the fading of colour and lustre over time. Its unique composition includes copper and palladium for colour and stability.
2 / 3
Ceramic
OMEGA has unrivalled expertise in the use of ceramics, dating back more than 10 years. Taking its origin from the Greek word "keramos", ceramic is an inorganic, non-metallic substance obtained by firing at high temperatures. It allows the creation of completely dense watch parts with exceptional mechanical properties. Ceramic is one of the most popular choices for customers when selecting their timepiece, thanks to its appealing colour range and specific properties, such as it being two times lighter than stainless steel, hardwearing, highly scratch-resistant, chemically inert, hypoallergenic, environmentally friendly and non-magnetic.
3 / 3
Sapphire Crystal
To really appreciate the finer details of a timepiece, OMEGA uses synthetic sapphire crystal with a highly scratch-resistant and anti-reflective treatment. Before the machining and finishing processes take place, the sapphire crystals are produced under the Verneuil process, also called flame fusion. It involves the melting of the raw substance using oxyhydrogen flame and the crystallisation of the melted droplets to form a cylinder. Graded 9 on the Mohs-hardness scale (graded 1-10), the resulting sapphire crystals are virtually scratch-proof and very hard, ensuring an unhindered vision at all times.
